(Single from album, "Home")
Marking their return to the charts with the 5th single from album “Home”, Rudimental proudly present, what is at first, an eye-rollingly bland drum and bass number. It might just be that I don’t particularly like liquid funk personally, but I do feel as though dance music artists are churning out incredibly samey stuff at the moment, with very non-descript meanings, lacking evidence of artistic intention. Yes, they’re good to dance to and so they do serve their purpose, but, at risk of sounding like a total outsider to the genre, they do all sound the same. In fairness to them, Rudimental’s drum and bass is some of the better stuff I’ve heard, incorporating an interesting percussive timing during the ‘drop’ section and a tirade of very well produced, gleaming electronics that retain the same winsomely shrill detail and pointed ergonomics of shattering glass. Saved only just from mediocrity by a guitar driven section in the middle, giving the song a vaguely standout quality, “Right Here” is good for a song in its field, but fairly uneventful as an element of the bigger contemporary musical picture.
