With hits like “Changed The Way You Kiss Me”, “Kickstarts” and “Midnight Run”, this London electronic artist has consistently lent new angles to his genre since his debut appearance a few years back, and whilst his output has not always appealed to me personally, his experimentation is to be admired regardless. With “All The Wrong Places”, Example proudly presents perhaps the most accessible drum and bass music ever recorded, opening this 3 minute musical heart-attack with an ecstatic, punchy keyboard melody that bounces light-heartedly over the ear-drums before exploding into a cavernous foray of bassy synth beats, resembling the same menacing tones of Depeche Mode’s 2006 “Playing The Angel”, but without the bland repetitiveness of dubstep, marking what feels like the perfect, natural evolution of the genre from it’s much simpler inception in the 1990s. This is seriously good dance music, designed for both the glitz of the club floor and yet also the iPods of the charts – very, very good.
