(Single from soundtrack album, “Drive - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack”)
Very brief review for you here...
1986 tossed out a song and it landed in 2012. That, or College just found a rather lovely preset on a synthesiser. This song sounds like its from the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack. Its obscene. Its just completely out of place. It is, however, also wonderful.
A high pitch squeal introduces the track before a fat, squelchy synth pattern climbs slowly from a muted level and to maximum amplification, a drum machine belting out one beat, rhythmically, in the background. A heavily flanged voice begins to sing in new romantic verse and its like a jolly Depeche Mode; you begin to actually think, where is Vince Clarke? Does he know about this? Is he playingI? Its insane.
Even the outro is 80s, fading everything out to pitch black except one overdub and the reverb from the voice track. It sounds exactly like a retro dance/disco track. Its not insane anymore, its darn spooky...
I love it. Its just a little poppy, synthed up, last-dance-at-the-disco track - nothing especially memorable, but a great little song nonetheless. In context with the film "Drive" whose soundtrack the song is taken from, I would imagine it fits beautifully to footage of a psychopath behind the wheel...
